BS&L - Why Minimalism Isn’t All White.

Hey Reader,

Lately I keep seeing “minimalism” reduced to the same image: all-white rooms, greige everything, and a complete absence of personality. It looks clean, sure—but it often feels more like a waiting room than a life well-lived.

That’s not my version of minimalism.

For me, minimalism is about balance: the right mix of functionality, shapes, and colors, all working together so nothing feels extra, but nothing feels missing either. It’s what nature does effortlessly—think of a rocky coastline, a forest in early spring, or a cloudy sky over fields. The base is neutral, but there are always pops of color and contrast that give it character.

In interiors, I see minimalism as a calm foundation with just enough tension to make it interesting. A neutral backdrop that lets a single bold chair sing. A simple layout that makes everyday rituals smoother. A limited palette, but not a lifeless one. The goal isn’t to strip everything away; it’s to keep only what adds value—visually, emotionally, or functionally.

And towering above everything is the real king: natural light.

But that’s a story for another time.

Here some products to echo this mood.

Valentine’s Day is really around the corner — preorders are about to close soon.

For now, I want to leave you with a question: if you took your own space and kept the neutral bones, where would you add just one or two “pops” that feel like you—through color, texture, or shape? That’s where your version of minimalism starts.

Hit reply and tell me what you’d keep, and what you’d accent. I’d love to see how your idea of minimalism compares to mine.

Of course, if you need guidance, you can book a free consultation here.

Until next time,
Anna

Hey Reader, There's a scene in The Big Bang Theory where a character makes a distinction that stopped me mid-rewatch: eating is a biological necessity. Dining is a cultural experience. I haven't stopped thinking about it since — because it's exactly what I do every time I work on a kitchen or a table setting. Most of us eat. We eat standing at the counter, scrolling, at the desk, or even walking between errands. But dining? Dining requires a stage. It asks something of the room. So what turns...

Hey Reader, I was scrolling late one night when I stopped on this bathroom: deep green tiles, a striped sink skirt in pink and green, light pouring in from a roof window. It felt like stepping inside a flower bouquet. Color isn’t an accent; it is structure. The green isn’t just a background, it’s the stem; the pink isn’t “pop of color,” it’s the blooms. When you think of it this way, green + fuchsia stops being a risky palette and becomes something your eye already understands from nature. In...

Hey Reader, Every morning, I notice the light shifting slightly across the room. It’s subtle, but over time you start to see patterns — where the sun lands, how it moves, how it changes the feeling of the space. Most people think good interiors come from furniture or finishes. But often, it’s light. And while you possibly can’t change your windows, you can change how you work with them. The most common mistake is treating windows like a background. Sofas get pushed against walls. Tables go...
