BS&L - Why designing your own home is the hardest project.

Hi Reader,

This week I watched a video of an interior designer talking about how difficult it was to work on their own home.

I stopped halfway through — because I felt exactly the same.

When it’s your own space, you don’t see one solution.
You see all of them.
Endlessssss possibilities - that quickly turn into frustration.

And emotion enters the picture more than we expect.

Working on our apartment has made me feel closer to my clients than ever.
Not only because of uncertainty, but because of the tension it creates — between partners, between budgets and expectations, between what feels right and what feels realistic.

Every project carries its own roller coaster: financial, emotional, practical. And when you’re inside it, objectivity is the first thing to disappear.

That’s when an external eye becomes crucial.

Not someone to decide for you — but someone outside the emotion, who can slow things down, help you prioritize, and support decisions without urgency or pressure.

I’m not finalizing big choices yet.

Here’s my week’s peek: a few pop of color pieces I’m considering for our living room.

Nothing final — just possibilities I’m sitting with.

January’s flower arrangement comes from that same need for grounding.

White hydrangeas, roses, and yellow oncidium.

Restrained colors, clear structure — something steady to live with while everything else is still unfolding.

Valentine’s Day is coming up — preorders are still open. We can only prepare a limited number of bouquets, and once we reach capacity, we’ll close orders.

If this phase feels familiar, it’s not a sign you’re behind.
It’s often the moment when guidance matters most - you can book a free consultation here.

Until next time,
Anna

Hey Reader, There's a scene in The Big Bang Theory where a character makes a distinction that stopped me mid-rewatch: eating is a biological necessity. Dining is a cultural experience. I haven't stopped thinking about it since — because it's exactly what I do every time I work on a kitchen or a table setting. Most of us eat. We eat standing at the counter, scrolling, at the desk, or even walking between errands. But dining? Dining requires a stage. It asks something of the room. So what turns...

Hey Reader, I was scrolling late one night when I stopped on this bathroom: deep green tiles, a striped sink skirt in pink and green, light pouring in from a roof window. It felt like stepping inside a flower bouquet. Color isn’t an accent; it is structure. The green isn’t just a background, it’s the stem; the pink isn’t “pop of color,” it’s the blooms. When you think of it this way, green + fuchsia stops being a risky palette and becomes something your eye already understands from nature. In...

Hey Reader, Every morning, I notice the light shifting slightly across the room. It’s subtle, but over time you start to see patterns — where the sun lands, how it moves, how it changes the feeling of the space. Most people think good interiors come from furniture or finishes. But often, it’s light. And while you possibly can’t change your windows, you can change how you work with them. The most common mistake is treating windows like a background. Sofas get pushed against walls. Tables go...
